No Contest: KP govt, opposition agree on unopposed senate elections

PTI’s Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Mohammad Afridi, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Azam Swati, and Rubina Naz will also secure Senate seats without opposition.

PESHAWAR: In a significant political development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP government and opposition have reached an agreement to elect all senators unopposed from the province. The decision was finalized during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, attended by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Opposition Leader Ibadullah, along with representatives from major political parties.

Sources confirmed that the meeting followed the 5/6 formula, under which six senators from the ruling PTI and five from the opposition will be elected without contest.

From the opposition, PPP’s Talha Mahmood, JUI’s Atta-ul-Haq Darwesh, PPP’s Rubina Khalid, PML-N’s Dilawar Khan, and ANP’s Niaz Ahmed will be elected unopposed. On the government side, PTI’s Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Mohammad Afridi, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Azam Swati, and Rubina Naz will also secure Senate seats without opposition.

The consensus reflects rare political cooperation in KP, ensuring a smooth Senate election process.
