Mass wedding ceremony for orphaned and needy couples held in Swat

123 deserving couples got married in a mass wedding ceremony in Bannuorganized by the Zakat Department.

SWAT: In a landmark event, the district of Swat witnessed its first-ever mass wedding ceremony for underprivileged and orphaned couples. This initiative, undertaken on the special directives of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, is part of a province-wide welfare program aimed at supporting deserving couples.

Organised by the Department of Zakat and Ushr Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in collaboration with the district administration of Swat, the ceremony brought together 29 orphaned and needy couples in a dignified matrimonial event. The celebration was held at a local wedding hall in Qambar, Swat, and was attended by the newlywed couples, their families, relatives, and several distinguished guests.

To ensure the couples begin their new lives with financial security, the Department of Zakat and Ushr provided each couple with a cheque worth Rs. 200,000 as a dowry fund. A simple yet elegant feast was also arranged in honour of the newlyweds and their guests.

The event was graced by several prominent figures including Provincial Chairman Zakat and Ushr Council Imtiaz Ali Khan, Commissioner Malakand Division Abid Wazir, Deputy Commissioner Swat Shehzad Mehboob, District Chairman Zakat and Ushr Malik Asif Ali Shehzad, Mayor City Council Shahid Ali, Tehsil Chairman Kabal Saeed Khan, and Tehsil Chairman Bahrain Mian Shahid Ali. Officers from the district administration, chairpersons of village councils, and officials from various departments were also present.

Speakers at the ceremony commended the provincial government’s initiative, highlighting it as a commendable step towards promoting social welfare, dignity, and state responsibility. They emphasised that such programs not only uplift marginalised segments of society but also reinforce core Islamic social values.

The event concluded with warm congratulations extended to the newlyweds and prayers for their prosperous and happy married life.
