Blaze kills 59 in North Macedonia nightclub

A nightclub fire in North Macedonia killed 59 people and injured more than 150 during a concert in the city of Kochani, about 100 kilometers from the capital, Skopje, authorities said Sunday.

Interior Minister Bozhidar Arsovski told reporters that the blaze broke out after some attendees set off fireworks, igniting the roof. Of the victims, 35 have been identified, most of whom were locals.

Police are investigating the incident and have issued arrest warrants for four individuals.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mikosovski expressed deep sorrow, calling the loss of young lives “irreparable.”

The tragedy marks one of the deadliest nightclub fires in recent years in the region.
