NORTH WAZIRISTAN: The Deputy Commissioner of North Waziristan, Muhammad Yousaf Karim, has imposed a strict 30-day ban on plastic bags across the district, citing severe environmental and health risks.
In an official notification, the DC stated that plastic bags are causing widespread pollution, clogging drainage systems, and harming public health. He emphasized that plastic waste is non-biodegradable, leading to long-term ecological damage in both urban and rural areas.
The ban, enforced under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), prohibits the use, sale, purchase, storage, and distribution of all types of plastic bags effective immediately from June 20 to July 19, 2025, unless revoked earlier.
Authorities warned that violators will face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The move aligns with the government’s efforts to promote eco-friendly alternatives and reduce plastic waste.
Residents and businesses are urged to comply with the order to avoid penalties and support environmental conservation efforts.
