Nowshera residents slam sharp fuel price hike, call It a “Petrol Bomb” on the Poor

Government announces reduction in petrol, diesel prices

NOWSHERA: The government’s recent decision to raise the prices of petroleum products has triggered a wave of anger and concern among the residents of Nowshera, expressing deep frustration, alling the sudden hike a “petrol bomb” unleashed on an already burdened population struggling to cope with skyrocketing inflation.

Residents noted that the country is already reeling under the pressure of rising costs for essential commodities, and the latest increase in fuel prices will inevitably lead to a domino effect. Transportation costs are expected to surge, which will directly push up the prices of food, medicine, and other daily necessities. For working-class families, especially those living on fixed or limited incomes, this could mean making impossible choices between food, schooling, and healthcare.

“This is not just a price hike — it’s an attack on the livelihood of the poor and the middle class,” said a local shopkeeper. “How are we supposed to survive when everything from vegetables to electricity is becoming unaffordable?”

Citizens also criticised the lack of planning and foresight in the government’s economic decisions. Many believe that without immediate corrective measures, this increase could trigger a new wave of inflation and deepen the country’s ongoing economic crisis. Several community leaders and social activists warned that continued economic mismanagement could lead to growing public unrest.

The people of Nowshera have appealed to the government to reverse the increase in fuel prices without delay and to adopt practical, people-centred policies that offer real relief. They stressed the need for long-term economic reforms that prioritise affordability, job creation, and price stability.

“If the government does not take timely action, the gap between the rich and poor will widen further, and the entire social fabric could be at risk,” warned a concerned resident. The demand from the public is loud and clear: roll back the fuel price hike and take meaningful steps to ease the burden on the common man.
