One injured in blast near police van in Bannu

BANNU: A driver of the police van was injured when an improvised explosives device hit the vehicle in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.

The incident came two days after security forces thwarted a terrorist attack on Bannu Cantt.

As per details, the Police van was on routine patrolling on the Link Road of Domail area when a roadside bomb exploded and hit the police van. As a result, police van driver Nisar Khan was injured in the blast. Other police officers in the car, including ASI, however, remained unhurt.

Police cordoned off the area to chase the miscreants involved in the attack.

Earlier today, security forces on Thursday destroyed unexploded explosives recovered from terrorists involved in the Bannu Cantt attack.

According to the security forces, the bomb disposal squad neutralized via controlled detonations without causing any loss.

Authorities have yet to confirm the exact quantity and type of explosives used in the attack.

Police officials stated that forensic analysis is underway, and details will be shared with the media once lab results are available.

The situation remains under control as security forces continue their operations in the area.

Yesterday, The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that Pakistan’s military successfully thwarted a major terrorist attack on Bannu Cantt (Cantonment) in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday evening, killing all 16 terrorists.

“On 4 March 2025, a cowardly terrorist attack was attempted on Bannu Cantonment by Khwarij elements,” read the statement.

The assailants sought to breach the cantonment’s security; however, their nefarious designs were swiftly and decisively foiled by the vigilant and resolute response of Pakistan’s security forces. In their desperation, the attackers rammed two explosive-laden vehicles into the perimeter wall, it added.
