Only state can declare jihad, says DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI: Director General of the Pakistan Army’s media wing, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif, asserted that only the state holds the legitimate authority to declare jihad, no individual or group has the right to do so.

Speaking at a special session attended by representatives of diverse religious and social communities, the ISPR DG reaffirmed that people of all faiths in Pakistan are equal citizens with full constitutional rights. He emphasized that national unity is only possible through equality, tolerance, and harmony.

He also accused India of sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan, but assured that the Pakistan Army is effectively countering these threats with modern warfare tactics. Highlighting the dangers of ethnic and linguistic divisions, he said such attitudes stem from ignorance and reiterated that unity among Pakistanis is the key to national strength.

Participants from various religious and social sectors welcomed the initiative and expressed the desire for more such engagements in the future.
