OpenAI plans new social media network similar to X

OpenAI ‘braced to challenge Musk’s X with new social network’

OpenAI is working on a new social media platform similar to X (formerly Twitter), according to reports. The company has an internal prototype that focuses on ChatGPT’s image generation and includes a social feed.

This move could increase tensions between Altman and Elon Musk, who co-founded OpenAI but left in 2018. Musk, who owns X, has clashed with OpenAI in recent months. Earlier this year, he made a $97.4 billion bid to take control of OpenAI, but Altman rejected the offer.

Last year, Musk sued OpenAI, accusing it of abandoning its original mission of developing AI for humanity. OpenAI countersued, claiming Musk harassed the company and tried to block its shift to a for-profit model. A trial is set for next year.

If launched, OpenAI’s social network would compete with Meta, which is also working on its own AI-powered social platform. Both Meta and X have vast amounts of user data to train their AI models.

Altman previously joked about Meta’s plans, saying, “ok fine maybe we’ll do a social app.” Now, it seems OpenAI is seriously considering the idea.
