Operation Zarb-e-Azb affected traders demand compensation for shops

MIRANSHAH: The affected traders of operation Zarb-e-Azb have demanded of the government to pay them compensation of their shops demolished during the operation as soon as possible otherwise they would launch a movement for the demands.

Addressing a news conference here at Miranshah press club on Tuesday. The trader community leaders demanded immediate payment of compensation.

Business Community Chairman Sanaullah Khan said that the government had promised to pay compensation for the losses of shops, in which checques have been issued to some of the affected people, but unfortunately most of the shopkeepers have not been paid yet.

He said the authorities have suddenly stopped issuing checques to remaining affectees due to which the business community was facing severe financial difficulties.

He added that the business community was very hopeful about the partial payment of compensation, but now the stopping of checques had left them very disappointed. Because the economic distress of the demolished shopkeepers of Miranshah Bazaar has reached such a level that they cannot buy Eid clothes for their children and are unable to meet the necessities of life, because due to the recent increase in terrorist incidents, business is non-existent.

“We, the business community, warn the district administration and the provincial government that if the payment of compensation checques is not restored immediately, we will come on to streets for agitation1. We will consider other protest measures including blocking the Bannu-Miranshah main highway.

The business community leaders and shopkeepers demanded that the district administration, the provincial advisor for relief and resettlement and the provincial government should take immediate and serious notice of this matter and take immediate steps to resolve the problems faced by the business community and shopkeepers.
