Pakistanis have become the largest group seeking asylum in the UK, according to new data from the UK Home Office. In the year ending March 2025, a total of 11,048 Pakistanis applied for asylum, making them the most common nationality among applicants.
Overall, 109,343 people sought asylum in the UK during this period. Pakistanis had previously ranked third in 2023-24 but have now surpassed other nationalities. About 33% of these asylum seekers arrived in the UK by crossing the English Channel in small boats.
Afghans were the second-largest group, with 8,069 asylum applications, followed by other nationalities. The rising numbers highlight ongoing migration trends and challenges for UK immigration authorities.
