Over 41 percent children out of schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: Nearly 3.5 million children which makes more than 41 percent of the total children,  are out of schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The provincial education department revealed recently in a report that more than 3.67 million children in settled areas and 1.61 million in the erstwhile FATA have not yet been enrolled.

According to documents, more than 2.29 million girls and 1.38 million boys are out of schools in the settled area, while more than 360,000 boys and 645,000 girls in the former FATA.

Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Khan Tarakai told Pakhtun Digital that around 1.2 million children are out of schools in the merged districts while the rest are in settled areas.  He said that 34500 schools are functional across the province in which more than 6 million are enrolled.

He said that steps are being taken to bring out of schools children to schools. He said that the government had enrolled 1.3 million children through an enrollment drive last year.

He said that he is working to reintroduce education in the mother language.

Earlier, he held “Meet and Greet” session with the journalists of the Education beat.

During his interaction with journalists, he said that in collaboration with the media, he will run an effective enrolment campaign this year to bring back the school’s children.

He said that civil society and media play an important role in producing awareness.

The event was organized by the media team of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department. The event was attended by a large number of journalists, apart from the Secretary of the Education Department, officials.
