PESHAWAR: Serious irregularities have emerged in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department after it was revealed that more than Rs106 million were withdrawn from a frozen bank account linked to a foreign-funded initiative, the Human Capital Investment Project.
According to official documents, the account was frozen on June 25, yet on July 3, three cheques were used to withdraw the funds. The development has raised serious concerns about the internal control mechanisms of both the department and the bank involved.
In response, the Project Director of the Education Department wrote to senior bank officials, demanding an immediate inquiry. He stressed the need to identify the procedural loopholes and examine possible negligence or misconduct on the part of the bank’s management.
Education sector analysts warned that misappropriation of funds from foreign-assisted projects not only undermines critical development programs but also damages KP’s credibility with international donors. The Human Capital Investment Project is aimed at strengthening education infrastructure and human resource capacity, and any financial mismanagement poses a direct threat to its objectives.
