The five-star badges of the highest rank of ‘Field Marshal’ in the history of Pakistan, after Field Marshal General Ayub Khan, were placed on the shoulders of General Syed Asim Munir.
On Tuesday, the government of Pakistan approved the promotion of Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir (Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military) to the rank of ‘Field Marshal’ for his great success in the Battle of Haq, Operation ‘Bunyan Marsus’ and his superior strategy for it, ensuring the security of the country and crushing the enemy in a few hours.
General Syed Asim Munir was to be awarded the badges of the highest rank of ‘Field Marshal’ in the Pakistan Army, which was to be held in the House on Wednesday, however, the ceremony was postponed in mourning over the terrorist attack on a school bus in Khuzdar district of Balochistan.
After the emergence of Pakistan, the foundation of Pakistan’s defence system and the Pakistan Armed Forces was laid to protect the country’s maritime, air and geographical borders, for which the positions of the Pakistan Army were also determined in the country’s constitution. The major positions of the Pakistan Army included the Chief of Army Staff, Army Chief, General, Lieutenant General, Brigadier, and Major.
Apart from these positions, the highest position is that of Field Marshal, which was first awarded to the late former Army Chief and General Ayub Khan.
After 6 decades in the history of the country, after General Ayub Khan’s announcement of the position of Field Marshal in 1959, General Syed Asim Munir is the second major figure of the Pakistan Army to be entrusted with the position of Field Marshal.
Field Marshal is considered the highest position in the army; the person holding this position is a five-star general and the most senior army officer. This rank in the Pakistan Army is given on the basis of exemplary leadership and exceptional performance.
