RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army has dispatched additional troops to Buner to intensify relief operations in flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Specialised teams from the Army’s Corps of Engineers, equipped with heavy machinery, are working to rescue the injured and recover bodies trapped under debris. Helicopters are also delivering food and essential supplies while evacuating stranded families to safer locations. Officials said relief efforts will continue until all affected individuals are rescued and rehabilitated.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), flash floods, landslides, and cloudbursts across Battagram, Bajaur, Mansehra, Swat, Buner, Torghar, and Shangla have so far claimed 307 lives. The victims include 279 men, 15 women, and 13 children, while 23 others sustained injuries. Dozens remain missing.
The floods also damaged 45 houses — seven completely and 38 partially — along with three schools. Bajaur and Battagram districts have suffered the most destruction, where large-scale rescue and recovery efforts are still underway.
PDMA confirmed that weather alerts had been issued to local administrations before the disaster. Authorities have now been directed to speed up relief work, ensure immediate aid to victims, and deploy all available resources to reopen tourist routes and restore blocked roads.
