Pakistan bans locals from renting property, accommodations to illegal foreigners

ISLAMABAD: As the repatriation of undocumented Afghan nationals has continued unabated, Pakistan has decided to take stern action against those found providing accommodations, houses and shops to the undocumented Afghans and other illegal foreigners.

Addressing a press conference here in Islamabad on Friday, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said that the decision has been communicated to all provinces.

“If anyone gives a place—whether it’s a shop or a house—on rent to an illegal foreigner, they will also be held responsible,” said Talal Chaudhry.

Only those individuals who possess legal documents, regardless of their country of origin, can be offered employment.

“Hotel accommodations on rent, any kind of business, shops and houses, any kind of employment, or dealings in moveable or immovable property in Pakistan can only be conducted with individuals who have legal documentation,” it added

Pakistani citizens are only permitted to work with or deal with those who possess valid legal documents.

It is pertinent to mention here that around 1, 50,000 Afghan citizens, including women and childre,n were repatriated since the expiry of a March 31 expulsion deadline for Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders and illegal Afghan refugees.
