Pakistan calls up Imam-ul-Haq for Champions Trophy

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has called up opening batter Imam-ul-Haq to replace injured Fakhar Zaman in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Earlier today, Fakhar Zaman ruled out of the eight teams tournament after injury during the opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand in Karachi on Wednesday.

Fakhar Zaman had left the field after injuring in the first over of the match during fielding. As a result, he come to bat at number 4 due to fielding rules but failed to make an impact. He was visibly in pain and struggled his way to 24 runs off 41 balls at a strike rate of 58.53.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed saying that Fakhar Zaman will not be travelling with the national team for Dubai today for their crucial clash against India on February 23.

Reports indicated that his injury was serious, making him unavailable for the rest of the tournament.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approached the ICC Technical Committee for a replacement, with Imam-ul-Haq emerging as the frontrunner for the spot.

Fakhar sustained the injury in the first over while fielding against New Zealand. Despite leaving the field twice for treatment, he continued playing but was visibly struggling during his batting innings.
