ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned what it called “unjustified aggression” by Israel against Iran, warning that the escalating tensions pose a serious threat to peace and stability across the region.
Speaking at the weekly press briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated that Pakistan views the current situation with grave concern. “The ongoing hostilities could destabilise the broader region. We urge the international community to take immediate steps for a ceasefire and hold the aggressor accountable through effective measures,” the spokesperson said.
He also stressed the need to declare the Middle East a nuclear weapons-free zone, stressing that only through disarmament and diplomatic engagement can lasting peace be achieved in the region. Commenting on the recent high-level engagement between Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and U.S. President Joe Biden, the spokesperson referred to a detailed statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).“The ISPR has already outlined all aspects of the meeting. There is nothing further to add at this time,” he noted. The spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding position on Indian involvement in acts of terrorism within its borders.
Pakistan has repeatedly presented credible evidence to the international community regarding India’s role in supporting terrorist activities on Pakistani soil. These are no longer allegations — they are facts,” he stated.Addressing questions about Iran, the spokesperson described the country as a “close friend and brotherly neighbour.” He dismissed reports regarding regime change in Iran as speculative and refrained from commenting further.
He confirmed that Pakistan’s consulates in Zahedan and Mashhad have been actively facilitating the safe evacuation of Pakistani nationals amid rising tensions. “More than 3,000 Pakistani citizens have so far been repatriated through coordinated efforts,” he said.
In response to a query about Iran’s nuclear activities, the spokesperson said Iran remains in contact with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). “Pakistan hopes this matter is resolved through peaceful diplomatic channels,” he added.
On the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people. “Our stance remains clear and consistent — we seek a peaceful resolution of the dispute by UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people,” he said.
