ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday strongly condemned the inhumane and cowardly killing of its nationals in Iran.
In a statement, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said, “We hope for the Iranian side’s full cooperation in investigating the matter and in the timely repatriation of the victims’ remains.”
According to MOFA, eight Pakistani nationals were tragically killed on Saturday in Mehrestan County, Sistan-Baluchistan province, located approximately 230 kilometers from the Pakistan-Iran border. “Our mission has already requested consular access to verify their identities,”
He said the leadership and people of Pakistan were deeply saddened and disturbed by the tragic incident. The Prime Minister has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“On the instructions of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, our Embassy in Tehran and Consulate in Zahedan are in constant contact with Iranian authorities to ensure a thorough investigation, bring the perpetrators to justice, and facilitate the prompt repatriation of the victims’ remains,” he said.
He concluded that further updates will be shared as soon as more information becomes available regarding the victims’ identities and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, said in a post on X that eight Pakistani nationals were killed in a despicable act of violence in Mehrestan. “We are in touch with Iranian authorities to ensure a swift investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. Iran has assured its utmost cooperation,” he stated.
He added, “Under the instructions of the Honorable Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, the mortal remains will be repatriated to Pakistan as soon as possible. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. May the departed souls rest in peace.”
