The Pakistan Airports Authority has confirmed that the country’s airspace will remain closed to Indian aircraft for an additional month, extending the existing restrictions until July 23, 2025. A new NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has been issued to formalise the extension.
According to the authority’s spokesperson, the ban applies to all Indian-registered and Indian-leased aircraft, covering both commercial passenger and military flights. Indian airlines and defence aviation units are therefore prohibited from using Pakistani airspace for overflights, landings, or takeoffs.
This move is the latest in a series of aviation restrictions tied to escalating diplomatic and regional tensions. The spokesperson did not cite a specific reason for the extension but emphasised that the ban remains in line with national security considerations.
The original airspace closure was imposed earlier this year following a series of bilateral disputes. The continuation of the ban is expected to impact Indian carriers operating westward routes, as they will need to continue rerouting flights, increasing both flight times and fuel costs.
