Pakistan Hockey team’s Asia Cup participation awaits govt nod

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has stated that a final decision on the national team’s participation in the upcoming Asia Cup will be made soon. However, any decision regarding traveling to India for the tournament will require approval from the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

PHF Secretary Rana Mujahid addressed the media in Lahore, clarifying that there is no confirmation yet on whether India has granted permission for Pakistan’s team to enter the country. He mentioned that the PHF could request the International Hockey Federation (IHF) to shift the matches to a neutral venue, with the IHF expected to respond by July 21.

Mujahid acknowledged that players are still awaiting payments for the Nations Hockey Cup and Under-18 Asia Cup. He emphasized the need for a separate budget allocation for the Pro League and proposed an annual budget of at least Rs 750 million for hockey development.

He expressed gratitude to Rana Sanaullah and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for their support, while also crediting Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir for backing the players.
