Pakistan-India tension: Russia calls on India to engage in dialogue with Pakistan

After rising tensions between Pakistan and India, Russia called on India to engage in dialogue with Pakistan.

Russia’s categorical message to India: There should be no tension, and talks with Pakistan should be held in light of the Simla and Lahore agreements.

According to the details, Russia has once again emphasised that a solution to the tension between India and Pakistan is possible only through diplomacy and bilateral talks. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov contacted his Indian counterpart, S. Jaishankar, and stressed that both countries should adopt the path of restraint and dialogue in light of the Simla Agreement and the Lahore Agreement.

A statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow wants peace and stability in the region and believes that dialogue is the only way to avoid conflict. Russia has given a clear message to India that instead of increasing tensions, it should keep diplomatic doors open.

This statement has come at a time when the situation has become more tense in recent days after 26 people were killed in a firing in the Pahalgam area of occupied Kashmir on April 22. India blamed Pakistan for the incident without any solid evidence and unilaterally suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, to which Pakistan reacted strongly.

Pakistan condemned the incident and not only offered an impartial investigation, but Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also assured India of full cooperation. On the other hand, India is threatening serious consequences, to which Pakistan’s military and political leadership responded categorically, saying that if India takes any action, it will be given a befitting reply that it will never forget.
