ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening mutual understanding and strengthening economic and strategic cooperation in the region.
This understanding was reached during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in Islamabad on Monday.
Foreign Minister Araghchi conveyed warm greetings from the Iranian leadership and reiterated Iran’s resolve to boost and enhance bilateral ties with Pakistan.
Welcoming the Iranian delegation, Ishaq Dar highlighted the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and religious ties between the two neighbouring countries. He acknowledged the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Iran relations and stressed the importance of expanding collaboration in critical sectors such as trade, energy, border security, and regional connectivity.
Both leaders also discussed key regional and international issues.
Deputy Prime Minister Dar voiced Pakistan’s deep concern over rising tensions in South Asia, attributing them to India’s provocative actions following the Pahalgam incident. He categorically rejected unfounded attempts to implicate Pakistan, and called for a credible, transparent, and impartial international investigation to uncover the truth. He added that such accusations appear aimed at diverting attention from the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir conflict.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering opposition to terrorism in all its forms, Dar emphasized the country’s frontline role in combating terrorism and the heavy sacrifices it has made in this ongoing fight.
The two sides reiterated their shared commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
Dar expressed gratitude for the Iranian Foreign Minister’s timely visit, terming it significant given the current regional climate.
