ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif informed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday that Pakistan has the right to act in self-defence “in accordance with Article-51 of the UN Charter”.
He stated that India’s actions were a blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and posed a serious threat to peace and stability in South Asia.
The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to defending its sovereignty at all costs. He highlighted the public outrage over India’s unprovoked acts of aggression and underscored Pakistan’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
He also expressed appreciation for President Trump’s concern regarding the deteriorating security situation in the region.
Secretary Rubio stated that the United States was closely monitoring the developments and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to fostering peace and stability in South Asia. He stressed the importance of both Pakistan and India engaging in dialogue to de-escalate tensions.
Both parties agreed to remain in contact moving forward.
