LAHORE: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) hosted a grand ceremony to recognize the country’s top-performing athletes, distributing cash awards totaling Rs8.2 million among 36 outstanding male and female sports stars.
Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, who won gold at the Asian Championships, received Rs2 million, while snooker champion Muhammad Asif was awarded Rs5 million for his South Asian title victory. The event also saw the distribution of annual grants worth Rs3.29 crore and special grants of Rs3.1 crore to various sports federations.
Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah emphasized the need for enhanced sports facilities, stating, “Pakistan must meet global standards to help our youth bring glory to the nation.” Notable grants included Rs10 million for Athletics, Rs7 million for the National Rifle Association, and Rs5 million each for Handball, Volleyball, and Squash federations.
The ceremony was attended by hockey captain Imad Shakeel Butt, tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq, and other prominent athletes.
