Pakistan set an unwanted record in T20 cricket history after a crushing nine-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the first match of their five-game series on Sunday.
After being sent in to bat, Pakistan was bowled out for just 91 runs in Christchurch. New Zealand chased down the target of 92 in just 10.1 overs, losing only one wicket. The hosts secured victory with 59 balls to spare, marking Pakistan’s heaviest defeat in T20 Internationals in terms of balls remaining.
The previous record for Pakistan’s worst T20 loss was set in 2018 when Australia chased a target with 55 balls remaining. Pakistan’s most lopsided defeat while batting second also came against New Zealand in 2016, when they were dismissed for 101 while chasing 196.
