ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Ambassador to the Security Council, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed said that Pakistan is monitoring the situation arising due to the aggressive policies of India and would soon call for a Security Council meeting amid Pak-India tension after the Pahalgam attack.
Addressing a press conference at the UN headquarters in New York, he said that it is clear that an incident had taken place, but the situation that is now emerging is a real threat to regional and international peace and security, and we believe that the Security Council does indeed have a mandate. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, has said that Pakistan is monitoring the situation arising from India’s aggressive actions, which have arisen after last week’s attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir, and will call for a meeting of the United Nations Security Council when appropriate.
It would be very legitimate for any member of the Council, including Pakistan, to request a meeting. The press conference was one of several measures that were taken to inform the international community of this evolving situation and Pakistan’s perspective. He said that they have discussed this matter with last month’s Council presidency (France) and this month’s presidency (Greece). We are monitoring the situation very closely and we reserve the right to call a meeting of the Security Council when we deem it appropriate.
