Pakistan to call NA session on May 5 amid India tensions

ISLAMABAD: As tensions with India continue to escalate, the federal government has decided to convene a session of the National Assembly on May 5, with serious consideration being given to tabling a resolution condemning India.

A high-level consultative meeting, chaired by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, was held at the Parliament House and attended by senior ministers including Azam Nazir Tarar, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and Barrister Aqeel Malik.

According to sources, the meeting reviewed the current political and security landscape in light of recent cross-border developments and diplomatic strains with India. The participants discussed Pakistan’s official narrative and potential parliamentary response, with a particular focus on finalizing a resolution denouncing India’s actions.

The possibility of convening a joint session of parliament was also explored to demonstrate national unity on matters of foreign policy and defense.

The defence minister reportedly underscored the importance of building consensus on national security issues and suggested engaging with opposition parties to ensure a unified national stance. Discussions also included legislative proposals related to national security that may be introduced during the session.
