Pakistan to host SCO summit 2027: PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan will host the next Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in 2027, directing authorities to begin immediate preparations for the high-profile event.

The announcement came during the foundation-laying ceremony of Islamabad’s T-Chowk flyover on Friday, where the prime minister emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing infrastructure and urban aesthetics ahead of the summit.

PM Shehbaz pledged to beautify Islamabad for international guests, noting that Tajikistan had gifted a variety of plants to Pakistan. Work along Constitution Avenue is underway, with colourful flowers expected to bloom in the coming weeks, improving the capital’s appearance for the summit.

The prime minister also highlighted new travel initiatives for residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi are overseeing projects including a proposed rail car service to enhance mobility across the twin cities. The federal government assured full support to ensure smooth and convenient travel facilities.

PM Shehbaz further underscored Pakistan’s commitment to environmental sustainability, mentioning the introduction of eco-friendly electric transport and other ongoing projects under the interior minister’s supervision, reflecting the government’s focus on modern, green urban development.
