Pakistani bureaucracy purchased properties in Portugal, Says Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has claimed that more than half of Pakistan’s bureaucracy has purchased properties in Portugal and is now preparing to obtain citizenship.

Issuing a strong statement on the social media platform X, Khawaja Asif said that these bureaucrats, who were famous and influential officers of their time, are now living a peaceful retirement after committing corruption worth billions of rupees.

The Defence Minister further revealed that a bureaucrat close to former Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar received Rs04 billion as a mere “salami” for the wedding of his daughters.

Khawaja Asif, describing politicians as relatively less corrupt, said that they only eat the ‘leftovers’ left by these bureaucrats because it is necessary for them to contest elections and go to the public, so they neither take plots nor foreign citizenship.

Khawaja Asif alleged that bureaucracy is polluting the land of Pakistan, and this class has become the root of the real corruption.

Khawaja stressed reforms in accountability institutions like NAB and FIA, greater transparency in the civil service, stricter property declarations, and international cooperation to track and recover looted wealth. He also suggested a strict monitoring system over bureaucracy.
