A case has been filed against renowned singer Salman Ahmad under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly spreading propaganda against state institutions on social media.
According to the Lahore police, the First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Defence-A police station on behalf of the police. The complaint alleges that Salman Ahmad shared false and misleading content targeting national security institutions and the state through his social media account on X (formerly Twitter), where he has 265.4K followers.
The FIR further states that the singer published a post inciting hate, which was personally observed by a police officer on duty. This post is claimed to have the potential to incite unrest and damage the reputation of state institutions.
Authorities assert that the material shared by Salman Ahmad constitutes a violation of the PECA Act, and legal proceedings have been initiated accordingly.
