KARACHI: Pakistan’s Bano Kousar won gold in the women’s 48kg contact ju-jitsu category at the Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship on Sunday, defeating India’s Richa Sharma in a standout performance for the national team.
Kousar’s win on Day 3 of the event in Amman added to Pakistan’s growing medal tally, following earlier bronze medals in both men’s and women’s duo categories. Muhammad Ali Rashid and Muhammad Yousuf Ali earned bronze in the men’s duo, while Isra Waseem and Kainat Arif took bronze in the women’s duo competition.
Pakistan Ju-Jitsu Federation Chairman Khalil Ahmed Khan lauded the team’s achievements. “These medals are a testament to the world-class talent of our athletes. Full credit goes to the coaches, players, and support staff for their dedication,” he said.
Tariq Ali, secretary general of both the Pakistan Ju-Jitsu Federation and South Asian Regional Ju-Jitsu Association, called the victories a significant milestone for the sport in the country. “The determination shown by our women and youth athletes is truly commendable,” he added.
The championship, which brings together top martial artists from across Asia, concludes Monday, with Pakistan aiming to build on its success in the final matches.
