UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has strongly condemned the recent U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, calling the escalation deeply troubling and a threat to regional stability.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Sunday, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, criticized the sharp surge in violence and tensions, attributing it to “Israeli aggression and unlawful actions.” He warned that any further escalation could have catastrophic consequences not only for the region but globally.
“Pakistan stands in full solidarity with the government and the brotherly people of Iran during this difficult time,” the envoy added.
His remarks came shortly after reports surfaced that Pakistan had earlier considered recommending U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize — a move that has now sparked debate in light of Washington’s actions in Iran.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Sharif strongly condemned the U.S. strikes, which followed Israeli military aggression, and expressed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Iran.
The prime minister also conveyed his condolences over the loss of innocent lives and wished a swift recovery for those injured.
