Parliamentary panel on national security meets today amid surge in attacks

ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Panel on National Security will meet today at the Parliament to discuss the prevalent security situation in the country.

The National Assembly spokesperson announced that the in-camera meeting of the parliamentary committee will take place on Tuesday at 1:30 pm in the National Assembly Hall. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq will chair the session.

The development follows a sharp increase in attacks on law enforcement agencies, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Speaker convened the meeting on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Officials will brief the committee on the country’s security situation. Military leaders will brief the members of committee on the latest developments.

Parliamentary leaders of all political parties and their nominated representatives will attend. Cabinet members will also be present.

The military leadership will brief the parliamentary committee on the current security scenario.

The statement further added that the in-camera session will include a briefing on national security challenges, followed by consultations among political parties to formulate a unified policy.
