PDMA issues updated report on casualties and damages from KP floods
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released an updated report regarding casualties and damages from the recent floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The total number of fatalities has risen to 341, with 178 individuals injured due to heavy rains and flash floods. Among the deceased are 292 men, 28 women, and 21 children. The injured include 144 men, 24 women, and 10 children.

The report indicates that 420 houses have been severely affected by the rains. Of these, 281 houses sustained partial damage, while 139 houses were completely demolished. The highest number of fatalities occurred in Buner district, where 222 people have lost their lives. Swabi district has recorded 11 deaths and 20 injuries.

Several other districts, including Swat, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Dir Lower, and Battagram, are also facing this tragic situation. Various incidents, such as house destruction and landslides, have been reported during this period.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rains from August 17 to 19, with intermittent rainfall expected to continue until August 21. Authorities have advised the public to stay away from rivers and canals for safety.

Following special instructions from the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PDMA has dispatched relief goods in 89 trucks to the affected districts. The relief supplies include tents, mattresses, beds, kitchen sets, tarpaulins, mats, mosquito nets, generators, and other essential items to provide immediate assistance to the victims.

Additionally, at the direction of the provincial government, the PDMA has allocated a total of Rs 800 million as a relief fund to the district administrations of the affected areas. The largest share, Rs 500 million, has been given to the Buner administration to enhance their efforts in supporting victims.

The district administration has been tasked with intensifying relief activities to assist the victims promptly, aiming to minimise loss of life and alleviate the hardships faced by affected families. The PDMA and other relevant agencies are actively engaged in rescue and relief operations to ensure timely medical assistance for the injured and to help recover those trapped under debris.

Authorities urge the public to take precautionary measures, avoid flooded areas and low-lying regions, and report any emergency situations immediately to the appropriate authorities or emergency number 1700 to facilitate timely assistance.
