Pervez Khattak to join JUI F

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) former Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has reportedly decided to join the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and will officially announce his decision on February 22.

Khattak, a former leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), met with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to confirm his decision to join the party. The meeting was also attended by Khattak’s brother, Liaqat Khattak.

Following extensive discussions, the two leaders finalized the move. Khattak is expected to make the formal announcement during a press conference in Manki Sharif, Nowshera, alongside Maulana Fazal Rehman.

Khattak, who served as the K-P chief minister during PTI’s tenure from 2013 to 2018, was also the provincial president of PTI in K-P. However, in June 2023, he announced his resignation from all positions within the party following the May 9 incidents that occurred after the arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan.

Shortly after his resignation, Khattak, a close ally of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, announced the formation of a new political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians. His decision to join JUI-F marks a significant shift in his political career.
