ISLAMABAD: Pervez Khattak, appointed as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior on March 7, has reportedly been sidelined from all major affairs of the Ministry of Interior.
According to a key government official, Khattak holds the title but has no involvement in ministry matters. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is said to have made it clear that Khattak plays no role in the ministry’s ongoing affairs.
Pervez Khattak, a seasoned politician and former KP chief minister under PTI, parted ways with the party after the May 9 riots and formed his own faction, PTI-Parliamentarians. However, he and his family suffered significant defeats in the February 8 elections at the hands of PTI-backed candidates.
In contrast, PML-N’s Senator Talal Chaudary, recently appointed Minister of State for Interior, has been entrusted with key responsibilities and is regularly included in high-level ministry meetings. His appointment, backed by both Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Naqvi, is seen as strategic. Chaudary handles parliamentary business, represents the ministry in legislative sessions, and participates in core discussions on national security and internal affairs.
Khattak, however, has not attended any official interior ministry meetings since his appointment. When asked about his role, he dismissed the question as “odd” and declined to elaborate. A senior interior ministry official confirmed that Khattak has not been assigned any duties so far.
