PESHAWAR: The district administration and Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) launched a joint operation in Karkhano Market, demolishing dozens of illegal constructions and encroachments.
Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram said the operation followed provincial government directives.
Heavy machinery was used to clear illegal structures near 12 markets and along railway lines. During the crackdown, 36 people were arrested and sent to jail.
Akram stated that encroachments had blocked roads and footpaths, causing traffic and pedestrian issues.
He warned that similar operations would continue across Peshawar, with strict action against anyone rebuilding illegal structures.
