PESHAWAR: Expressing anguish over the non-implementation of the court order regarding the establishment of the Law University, the Peshawar High Court(PHC) has questioned Advocate General to explain his position for delaying tactics in the completion of this vital project.
Hearing on the contempt of court petition filed against the non-implementation of court orders for the establishment of a law university in the province, Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Khurshid Iqbal asked Advocate General Shah Faisal Utmankhel and President Peshawar High Court Bar Aminur Rehman to appear in the court.
Lawyer for High Court Bar Amin-ur-Rahman said that despite the court having directed the government to establish a law university in 2012, but the government has not taken any action on this important project.
The court has asked the Advocate General what progress has been made so far regarding the establishment of a law university. The Attorney General replied that the Law University is a mega project consisting of 150 Kanal of land, and instead of this they have built a prosecution academy.
Justice Ijaz Anwar remarked that strengthening the Prosecution is also a vital part of the legal system, and the Amnesty International report has put the shortcomings of the police and prosecution in the account of the judiciary.
He said that whenever the prosecution and police commit mistakes, it earns a bad name for the judiciary. The Advocate General said that the provincial government will work on prosecution and the Lawyer academy, and due to the law and order situation in the province, work on the law university delayed.
The court has sought a response from the provincial government and has asked to fix a final date for starting work on the law university. The hearing was adjourned until September 11.
