Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Peshawar Masood Bangash said that the population of Peshawar is about five million, due to which the incidents of snatching and robbery have increased.
Speaking in a podcast of Pakhtun Digital, Masood Bangash said that the issues have been taken care of to a large extent due to the timely actions of the police, but the problem of the street is still a matter of concern.
He said that up to 70 percent of the incidents of robbery have been recovered due to the timely actions of the police.
In response to a question, SSP Operations said that the gun culture in our province is both high and old, and that is why there are cases of murder here.
He said that 700 to 800 gun licenses are issued monthly, every house has a weapon, the spirit of revenge is traditional among people, there are family enmities, due to which the proportion of murders is high.
In response to the question, what is the reason for the high involvement of youth in robbery? SSP Masood Bangash said that unemployment, lack of entertainment opportunities and addiction to ice are the major reasons, the company of the youth also plays a big role in this.
SSP Operations Peshawar said that no human being is born a criminal, but society and company play a big role in it.
Regarding the eradication of ice, he said that it is the responsibility of the police to completely eradicate this scourge and we have arrested 450 drug dealers in Peshawar in just one year. He said that ice also comes to Peshawar from other parts of the country, erstwhile FATA and Balochistan.
He said that the Commissioner Peshawar has started best efforts to prevent drugs and is running a great campaign due to which now you will rarely see people addicted to drugs on the roads and squares in Peshawar.
Talking about the land grabbing mafia, he said that we have arrested 65 people involved in the land-grabbing mafia and sent them to different jails in the province. Due to police efforts, the occupation mafia in Peshawar has reduced by 70 per cent.
SSP Operations Masood Bangash said that the police are performing their duties diligently, so our responsibilities are also increasing. We have a duty everywhere. Be it elections, Muharram, protests, crime scenes or negotiations with protesters, you will see the police everywhere.
Regarding the perception of lack of trust between the public and the police, SSP Operations said that there are many reasons for this distance. There are parties, there are right and wrong, so we are trying to reduce this distance. We are also running campaigns for this. After Eid, we have held 20 meetings in this regard. The role of CCPO Sahib is also very important in this regard.
Regarding the sacrifices of the police, Masood Bangash said that our police is on the front line against terrorism, the police have made a lot of sacrifices. We have had 4000 martyrs in this war, our police are on duty day and night, peace is due to the sacrifices of the police.
Regarding the Safe City project, he said that work is underway on it. It is being done at four or five places. 700 cameras will be installed. Technical staff will be recruited through ETA.
