Peshawar University is currently facing a severe financial crisis, leading teachers to protest due to delays in salary payments. The Islami Jamiat Talaba University Campus Peshawar, represented by Nazim Taqwim-ul-Haq, has expressed full support for the teachers’ actions, deeming their protests legitimate.
Taqwim-ul-Haq stated that teachers have been advocating for their basic rights for many years, but have been met with indifference from successive governments. He emphasised that teachers are vital to any nation as they shape the education and development of future generations. Without timely salary payments, especially in this era of inflation, teachers struggle to fulfil their teaching responsibilities.
While the government claims a surplus budget, it continues to neglect critical sectors like higher education, which is both regrettable and condemnable. The Islamic Students’ Union strongly urges the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to recognise and address the legitimate demands of the teachers and employees at the University of Peshawar, seeking a lasting solution to the crisis.
Additionally, the union has called upon the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peshawar to engage with teachers’ representatives and resolve this issue by the end of August. The Islamic Students’ Union also clarifies that if the protest escalates to a point where teaching activities are disrupted, they will not support such actions, as they believe that educational processes must continue.
However, if the teachers and employees decide to expand their protest to include a sit-in outside the Chancellor’s office or the Chief Minister’s House, the Islamic Students’ Union will fully support and endorse this initiative.
