PESHAWAR: Peshawar Zalmi clinched a narrow six-run victory over Legends XI in a flood relief exhibition match at the Imran Khan Stadium on Saturday.
The charity fixture, organized under the banner “Khel Se Khidmat” (service through sports), aimed to generate vital funds for families displaced and affected by the recent floods across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, which destroyed homes, farmland, and livelihoods.
The rain-affected game was reduced to 15 overs per side, with Legends XI choosing to field after winning the toss. Batting first, Peshawar Zalmi posted 144 runs in 14.3 overs, powered by skipper Babar Azam’s 41 and Yasir Hameed’s 35. For Legends XI, Shahid Afridi and Abdur Rehman starred with the ball, bagging three wickets each.
In reply, Legends XI fell short, managing 138 for six in their 15 overs. Captain Inzamam-ul-Haq kept the chase alive with a quickfire 46 off 23 balls, while Azhar Mahmood added an unbeaten 34 from 15 deliveries, but they could not take their team over the line. Zalmi’s Mohammad Irfan and Babar Azam picked up two wickets each to seal the win.
