PHC gives 14 days to KP govt to explain delay in release of local govt’s funds

PHC Reserves Verdict on Relocation of Matric Exam Centres

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has issued a notice to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government over the non-release of funds to local government representatives. The court directed all parties to submit a response within 14 days.

The petition, filed by the provincial government, highlights that local representatives were elected in 2021 but have not yet received development funds. The lawyer for the petitioner argued that without these funds, representatives cannot carry out essential projects in their constituencies.

The petition claims that withholding funds violates fundamental rights and goes against Article 4 of the Constitution. The court has now sought a detailed response from both the provincial and local governments.
