PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has called for responses from both the provincial and federal governments regarding 10 petitions filed about missing persons.

During the hearing, Acting Chief Justice Ateeq Shah questioned the police’s focal person, asking, “Why are so many people disappearing?”

The police representative claimed that most individuals go into hiding voluntarily. “Some have personal enmities, others have taken loans, and several flee to avoid arrest,” the official stated.

Justice Ateeq Shah responded skeptically, “Does this mean these people are more skilled at disappearing than the police?”
He emphasized that the police should investigate the reasons behind these disappearances and provide detailed reports, rather than simply stating that the missing individuals were not in police custody.

The Additional Advocate General agreed, suggesting that Station House Officers (SHOs) should submit comprehensive reports on each missing person, including details about their character, business, and other relevant information. He added, “Some people disappear after going bankrupt.”

The court has directed the provincial and federal governments to submit their replies on the petitions concerning the 10 missing persons.
