Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily suspended flights from Pakistan to Canada from September 13 to September 27, 2025, due to essential maintenance of its Boeing 777 long-haul aircraft.
According to a PIA spokesperson, the technical inspection of the airline’s two long-haul aircraft will continue for three weeks, which includes replacement of key components. This process is made mandatory every 10 years to ensure passenger safety and compliance with international aviation standards.
The suspension of flights has affected scheduled flights from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad to Toronto. Due to this sudden decision, passengers are facing severe inconvenience and many have requested new dates for their flights. For example, the flight from Karachi to Toronto on September 16 has now been postponed until October 7.
Affected passengers have expressed concern over delays and other difficulties in their work as they had no idea about the suspension of flights in advance.
PIA has explained that this decision has been taken to ensure the safety of passengers and the full readiness of the aircraft, especially in view of the pressure of air travel expected in the coming months.
However, due to the limited availability of aircraft, the airline is facing difficulties in both international and domestic flights.
It may be recalled that earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had announced that PIA would resume flights to the UK from September 2025, under which three to four flights would be operated weekly from Pakistan to Manchester.
