ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially launched the National Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (NIFTAC) today, marking a significant step in strengthening Pakistan’s national counterterrorism strategy.
Speaking at the inauguration in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasised that dismantling the complex connections between terrorism, illicit networks, and external backing requires the development of strong and effective institutional mechanisms.
NIFTAC, a federal body, brings together more than 50 relevant federal and provincial agencies and departments into a unified intelligence and threat management framework, supported by a centralised national database. The centre also connects to six Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centres across Pakistan, including those in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, ensuring effective coordination from the national to the provincial level.
This integrated approach aims to streamline intelligence collection, analysis, and operational responses across various sectors. By fully utilising the country’s institutional capabilities, NIFTAC is poised to improve national preparedness, optimise resources, and facilitate a more coordinated and timely counterterrorism response.
Acknowledging the efforts of all those involved in establishing this critical initiative, the Prime Minister called NIFTAC a vital national platform for joint threat assessment and response. He expressed confidence that the centre will play a key role in eliminating terrorism and its support networks from Pakistan.
The Prime Minister was joined during the visit by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and the Services Chiefs.
