Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif directed on Thursday that third-party validation be ensured for transparency in public welfare projects, particularly those related to clean water, electricity, communication, and education. He emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards in both completed and near-completion projects through independent validation.
While chairing a review meeting on the development projects for the current fiscal year, the Prime Minister instructed that delayed projects must be completed as soon as possible. He stated that constructing high-quality educational centres, such as Danish Schools, in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and all provinces is a top priority for the government.
The Prime Minister noted that educational institutions play a vital role in the current fiscal year’s development plans, aimed at providing international-standard education and training to children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, thereby ensuring equal development opportunities.
He highlighted the crucial role of water reservoirs for national integrity, mentioning that several projects in this area are currently under construction. He also pointed out that the establishment of technology parks in Karachi and Islamabad will position Pakistan as a significant economic hub for information technology, both regionally and globally.
Furthermore, he emphasised that the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) is a key component of the government’s economic vision for the country. During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on both completed development projects and those currently underway for the fiscal year. The briefing revealed that multiple projects in sectors such as communications, IT, water reservoirs, electricity, educational institutions, and hospitals have been completed, and work on new projects is progressing rapidly.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning and Development Dr. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and senior officials from relevant institutions.
