ISLAMABAD: The funeral prayer for seven-year-old Irtaza Abbas Turi, son of Lieutenant Colonel Zaheer Abbas Turi, was offered in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The child was martyred in Dawarandi, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), as a result of unprovoked Indian cross-border shelling.
The solemn ceremony was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the Information Minister, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and a large number of senior military officers—both serving and retired—government officials, soldiers, and family members of the martyr.
Speaking after the funeral, Prime Minister Sharif strongly condemned India’s unprovoked aggression, calling the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians—including children, women, and the elderly—a shameful and cowardly act.
He noted that such brazen actions reflect the dangerous and arrogant mindset of the Indian leadership, which threatens not only regional but also global peace.
Both the president and the prime minister reaffirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces are responding forcefully and resolutely to Indian hostilities, and that violations of international law and humanitarian principles will not go unanswered.
They offered prayers for the martyrs, saying, “May Allah grant eternal peace to the victims of this brutal aggression and give their families the strength to endure this profound loss. Ameen.”
