ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday praised the Uraan Pakistan initiative, calling it a vital step toward empowering the youth and driving the nation towards prosperity.
Addressing participants of the Uraan Pakistan Summer Scholars programme, the premier highlighted that the initiative includes representation from across the country, reflecting Pakistan’s diverse youth potential. He said he was “deeply impressed” by the young talent and described them as “superstars of the future.”
The prime minister emphasized performance-based evaluation, declaring that recognition would be given solely on merit. “If we fail to serve the nation, we must be prepared to face the consequences. Only through dedicated public service can we earn pride and respect,” he said.
Responding to a question, PM Shehbaz stated that the government is navigating through a tough journey but remains committed to its duty of public service. He stressed the importance of teamwork, transparency, and accountability, stating, “Those who perform in public service are our pride.”
Reflecting on the challenges faced by the country in 2023, he said many feared a financial collapse, but through determination and timely action—including securing an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF)—Pakistan averted default. “With the grace of Allah and our united efforts, we achieved positive results,” he remarked.
The prime minister also highlighted key reforms, saying his government has promoted merit, transparency, and fought corruption. He noted that digitisation in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had boosted revenue collection significantly—raising it from Rs12 billion to Rs50 billion in one sector alone.
Shehbaz Sharif added that recent economic measures, including a reduction in the policy rate to 11%, aim to stimulate investment and economic activity.
He concluded by saying that Uraan Pakistan was developed after extensive consultations and is designed to provide young participants with practical exposure across various government sectors, ministries, and departments—preparing them to lead the country’s future.
