ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on Sunday focused on the supply and price control of sugar in the country. He emphasized that providing food and drink to the public at affordable prices is the government’s top priority.
In recent months, the government has taken strict action against sugar smuggling, leading to a significant reduction in such illegal activities. The Prime Minister issued directives for stringent measures to control sugar prices and to take firm action against those involved in sugar hoarding.
He also instructed the formulation of a strategy to ensure the supply of sugar and other essential food items at reasonable prices during Ramadan. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of collaboration between federal and provincial governments to ensure that the public has access to affordable food and drink.
He warned that no negligence would be tolerated in controlling the prices of sugar and other essential commodities during Ramadan.
During the meeting, officials provided a briefing on current sugar production levels, indicating that there is an ample stock of sugar in the province.
