ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister PM Shehbaz Sharif called for national unity during Pakistan’s main 78th Independence Day ceremony, attended by President Asif Zardari, military leadership, diplomats, and citizens.
Proposing a “Pakistan Stability Pact”, the PM urged all political parties to rise above divisions, declaring: “When it comes to Pakistan, we are one.” He credited the nation’s freedom to sacrifices underpinned by the Two-Nation Theory.
Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s resilience against external threats, specifically citing the May 10, 2025 response to India and praising Field Marshal Asim Munir’s leadership. He noted Pakistan’s status as the Islamic world’s sole nuclear power, paying tribute to Nawaz Sharif for the 1998 tests.
On the economy, he cited 5% inflation and 11% interest rates as signs of recovery, crediting PML-N policies and digital reforms. The PM reaffirmed support for Kashmiris and Palestinians and honored 90,000 Pakistani casualties in anti-terror efforts.
Concluding, he urged unity for national prosperity: “This is what our martyrs demand.”
